Bill Mayers & The Mayers Family
~ circa ~ 1940
Since 1970, Bill Mayers has been a driving force and leader in the railings and gates business. He learned the craft from his father David “Did” Mayers, who owned the largest railing shop on the East Coast. The Mayers family established Virginia Ironworks as the top choice of noted architects, interior decorators, landscape artists, builders, contractors and discerning homeowners.
Bill’s insistence on quality craftsmanship and client service affords Virginia Ironworks the distinction of providing railing services throughout North America and Europe. His detailed and decorative work can be seen in Newport, RI, The Hamptons and Embassy Row in Washington, DC. The beauty of the gates is equally matched by the high security they provide. Bill’s designs grace and protect American embassies in Switzerland, Armenia and at the Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA. Over the decades, Virginia Ironworks has flourished far beyond its small-family roots, yet continues to provide its clients with personal service, impeccable quality and unmatched craftsmanship they’ve come to expect.
The Mayers family’s work is featured in multiple episodes of HGTV’s Curb Appeal, as well as HBO’s acclaimed John Adams and AMC’s Turn. It is also seen in the movies Lincoln and Hannibal. Bill and his family recently worked with landscape architect Charles Stick, Jay Hugo of 3north Architects and interior designer Bunny Williams on a prominent Richmond residence.
